Microsoft’s Windows 11 is the next major edition of the Windows NT operating system. It’s believed to be Windows 10’s successor.
Microsoft announced after the release of Windows 10 that it would be “the last version of Windows.” The operating system was viewed as a service, with fresh builds and updates being delivered on a regular basis. However, after Microsoft released a job offering alluding to a “sweeping rejuvenation” of Windows, rumors about a new version or redesign of Windows emerged. The codename “Sun Valley” was used to design a visual refresh for Windows with the goal of modernizing the system’s user interface.
On June 15, 2021, leaked photos of a supposed beta copy of Windows 11’s desktop appeared online, followed by a leak of the same build the next day. The images and leaked build reveal a revamped out-of-box experience (OOBE) and Windows 11 branding, as well as an interface similar to the cancelled Windows 10X. TPM 2.0 is required to install in the leaked build, a condition that may be eliminated in the final release because most older systems fail to fulfill it.
The leaked version of Windows 11 was only accessible in 64-bit (x86-64) mode; it’s unclear whether the official release would include 32-bit (IA-32) and ARM64 variants.
During his keynote at the Microsoft Build 2021 developer conference, CEO Satya Nadella previewed the future generation of Windows. It had been self-hosted for some months, according to Nadella. He also hinted that a formal announcement will be made shortly. Microsoft began issuing invites for a special Windows event on June 24, 2021, only a week after Nadella’s address. On June 10, Microsoft also uploaded an 11-minute Windows start-up sound video on YouTube, with many believing that both the Microsoft event and the Windows start-up sound film were a reference to the operating system’s name, Windows 11.
